What is RETENTIS®?
RETENTIS® is a biological soil conditioner based on lignin, a natural component of wood. The granules store water and dissolved nutrients in the root zone and release them evenly as soil moisture drops.
What is the difference between “AgroBiogel” and “RETENTIS®”?
AgroBiogel is the name of the company and was the original product name. RETENTIS® is the current brand for the further developed product.
How much water does RETENTIS® store?
Up to 10 g of water per gram of granules, i.e. up to 10 liters per kilogram.
Is RETENTIS® an organic product?
RETENTIS® is 100% of biological origin and contains no synthetic polymers. In Austria it was tested by Easy-Cert according to EU Organic Regulation 2018/848 and the BIO AUSTRIA standard; in Germany and Spain it is listed on the FiBL input list for organic farming.
Does RETENTIS® contain microplastics?
No. RETENTIS® contains no synthetic polymers. The raw material is lignin, a natural component of wood that arises as a by-product of the pulp industry.
Which pack sizes are available?
750 g pack, 20 kg paper sack, pallet with 25 sacks (500 kg) and big bag with 500–750 kg. The 750 g pack is available in our online shop, the 20 kg sack currently on request at office@agrobiogel.com, larger packs through our partners.

Application & dosage
Application and dosage
Where can RETENTIS® be used?
In agriculture and forestry, landscaping, substrate production and private gardens: for all annual and perennial plants and all soil types, in containers, beds, lawns and also for grave plantings.
How do you apply RETENTIS®?
Mix dry with soil or substrate, or work it into the soil to a depth of 10–30 cm; do not spread it on the surface. Then water thoroughly to activate the gel.
What is the right dosage?
Soil, substrate and potted plants: 10–20 g per liter. Perennials and ground cover: 200 g/m². New lawn and turf: 100 g/m². Existing lawn: 20–40 g/m². Planting pits: 10 kg per m³ of excavated soil. Vineyards and orchards: 100 g per plant. Open-field vegetables: 200 g/m², under glass 250–500 g/m². Arable crops: 20–30 kg/ha. Reforestation: 50–100 g per seedling.
How often does RETENTIS® need to be applied?
One application per new planting. Depending on conditions of use, RETENTIS® stays active in the soil for 3–5 years.
Does RETENTIS® replace fertilizer?
No. Keep your standard fertilization; nutrient use efficiency may improve. Fertilizer can be mixed in together with RETENTIS®.
Why is the draining water brownish?
In containers, the draining water may be brownish at first. This is normal; we recommend using a saucer.
Can I use RETENTIS® for established trees?
Yes. With an injection lance, RETENTIS® can be introduced directly into compacted root zones of older trees. We work with specialised companies for this, just get in touch.
